One of the highlights of our Italian retreats is getting to stop off and visit wineries in the Tuscany region. We thought we would give you a brief intro to our favorite four, in no particular order of course;)
“Fabbrica was founded in 2013 with one goal, to make a special / purist wine. We cannot boast a century of heritage to the territory, nor several generations of winemakers and that is why our main purpose is to experiment and see what this place can offer from an innovative point of view and without borders / infinity of possibilities. This freedom leads us to experiment every year and we produce exclusive wines for a single vintage that are reserved for our members. We do not try to make wines to copy others, nor to please the market or the journalist, we always have a neutral / avant-garde vision and we only strive to bring you everything that Fabbrica can showcase, with undoubtedly also a little of ourselves.”
“La Nascosta was established by Antonio Mastrojanni, who was among the first winemakers in Montalcino, where he managed the Mastrojanni Winery Estate from 1980 to 2003, producing some of the most acclaimed “Brunello di Montalcino” wines. Although the family Estate was acquired in 2008 by the “Illy Coffee Group”, the name “Brunello Mastrojanni” was maintained and continues to be a point of reference for the entire appellation, regularly obtaining prestigious awards and recognition.”
“The quest for excellence and love for nature has always been a passion of the Bulgari family and has brought about intense research and development of the different potentialities of the local terroirs, which have generously given back three different qualities of harmonious red wines. Giovanni Bulgari, chief executive of Podernuovo and the creative soul of this venture, is naturally drawn to all environmental issues, and considers respecting nature an essential element while creating his wine. Finding a balance and harmony by reducing carbon dioxide while processing the grapes is the company’s objective.”
“Madrevite began in the area around Castiglione del Lago, in the hills surrounding Trasimeno Lake and Lake Chiusi between Umbria and Tuscany. Three generations of wine producers, who have handed down the strong, constant bond between man and nature.
Madrevite was founded in 2003, when Nicola began to restore the family business and decided to replant part of his grandfather Zino’s old vineyards, dating back to 1978. That was the beginning of his new project.
“My cultural roots are riveted to the land: I have always been a winegrower. My family’s tradition in wine tells a timeless story of wisdom, steadfastness, collaboration, meticulousness and trust (because the harvest doesn’t always come up to expectations and the farmer is well aware of that). I wanted to face the new millennium by writing another chapter in this story to treasure the store of knowledge handed down to me.”
We are farmers as a result of experience, dedication and a mission.”
