Today we get to share with you about MAKEMERRY, created by one of our EAT.PRAY.MOVE guests, Dr. Katie Deming, a radiation oncologist. MAKEMERRY is the first line of soft, stylish, sexy intimates meticulously designed to provide pain-free support after surgery, during radiation, and beyond.
“For years, I watched as my patients struggled to find bras that felt soft against their sensitive skin. Not finding them, I would alter their own bras to make them more comfortable during radiation. Unfortunately, these little hacks were ineffective and anything but sexy. So I decided to take the plunge—pun intended—and design the perfect bra. My passion project turned into six years of researching the best fabrics and designs, prototyping, patenting, wear testing, not sleeping, and ultimately, developing MAKEMERRY’s unique design.”
The reaction has been incredibly positive. One woman said, “Having cancer is extremely isolating, so having a company tailored to your specific needs makes patients feel understood and supported (no pun intended).” Another said this lingerie is a love letter to her body. Even better, these are not just random models: Everyone who models the clothing for MAKEMERRY has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another.
“Although I never intended to design clothing, MAKEMERRY has become an extension of my own oncology practice and a gratifying way to impact not only my patients, but also women worldwide,” says Katie. It’s worth noting that you don’t have to have been through these treatments to wear MAKEMERRY—the soft materials and flattering design make it appealing to all women!
We love companies that start with what needs to be changed in the world, and especially if it’s something specific and personal. Katie has taken the task of filling a huge hole in women’s lingerie, a real need, and made it not only functional but beautiful. Every woman deserves to feel comfortable and sensual, especially women who have fought through the trauma that comes from radiation treatments.
