Why do we love Puglia?

Puglia is an Italian dreamscape. The heel of Italy’s boot, this enchanting place won’t be a secret much longer. From the rocky beaches and romantic grottoes to the olive groves and vineyards, the landscape offers so much. But beyond that, the historic towns of bleached stone and the conical huts known as trulli leave visitors feeling like they’ve been somewhere ancient and magical. The food here is emblematic of Italian cuisine—locally pressed olive oils, handcrafted cheeses, stone oven pizzas, artisan wines, fresh herbs—which is simple, pure and exceptional.

What is there to experience in Puglia?

There is so much to see! In addition to its picturesque beaches, the grotto restaurant in the town of Polignano a Mare has consistently been voted the most romantic dinner spot in the world. The town of Alberobello is famed for it’s gray stone trulli, marked with spiritual symbology, and Ostuni is a white stone wonder. You can visit some of the oldest olive groves in the world at Puglia’s olive farms, and you can try some of the region’s best wine at their plethora of wineries.

Where do we stay?

Our home for the week, Otto Lire, is at once modern and historic, a combination of trulli and luxury reconstruction. The honey colored stone buildings sit overlooking a pool and pergola, as well as verdant green vineyards and a garden, where they source food for meals. There is ample space for activity, like the walking trails and stone yoga platform, and even more for reflection and stillness. But the real reason to visit is the warmth of the staff, who will fire up an oven days ahead for a special meal or throw an impromptu after dinner dance party!
