Basque, Spain

This unique area in Spain is home to some of the highest rated cuisine on the planet,
as well as thrilling contemporary art and architecture. The rioja wine region
is one of Europe's most famous, and the spectacular Basque shoreline compliments the landscape.

Why do we love Basque?

Where do we start? First of all, this is the food region many renowned chefs and food critics most love. From their fresh produce to their famed pintxos, you will never have such consistent high-quality cuisine. Likewise, this area neighbors Rioja, the beloved Spanish wine country that makes some of the best bottles in the world. The art and architecture of this area are also acclaimed—the city of Bilbao has drawn Gehry and Guggenheim, cementing its reputation as a design hub, and nearby Guernica beckons Picasso fanatics. From towns like San Sebastian to stretches unknown to the common traveler before Game of Thrones, its craggy coast boasts the most enticing aquamarine waters that keep us coming back for more.

Where do we stay?

We are right in the heart of it all: Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao, across from the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum! Being located so centrally allows us to fully take in the culture of the area and explore the region with ease. Some rooms even look out over the museum, lending to more art exploration and observation for our Form+Focus retreats. The hotel itself is a wonder of design, with sculpture and artistic details everywhere you turn.

Why take a wellness retreat here?

We believe that yoga can be experienced both on and off the mat, and that it is a practice that can improve our lives and lead us into the present moment. Traveling to a new place and experiencing a new culture also helps lead us to the present moment by heightening our senses and putting a mixing up our day to day. This area, so well know for its art, architecture, and food/wine scene, allows one to really connect with the sensory stimuli during our retreat. From a look at the modern art museums, to learning how the wine is produced in Rioja, to exploring the passion behind some of the world's famous plates of food, each moment, each bite, is an opportunity to be mindful, live in the moment, and slow down to learn something new.
