BALI, INDONESIA
A place of captivating ceremony, beautiful coastlines, and mysterious rain forests.
Come see why Bali is one of our favorite locales. We get to explore two locations for a taste of this amazing island.
Why do we love Bali?
If we had to describe Bali in a word we'd just say "special" as there's something that one feels when walking around the people and the land that seems to rise above the everyday spiritual plane. It's filled with customs, traditions, and ceremony at every turn and with every activity and the land brings a simple tranquility that allows its guests to find a peace and introspection alongside stunning scenery and rich cultural immersion. Our retreats in Bali are carefully planned so that we get a balanced taste of the cultural aspects, relaxation, nature visits, pampering, free-time, and more - and these are just the daytrips and activities. On top of that we are working on ourselves, our health, well-being, and enjoying a time that we hope is unforgettable.
Where do we stay in Bali?
Depending on which retreat you choose we spend our time at one or two incredible locations at award-winning luxury boutique hotels. One is on Bali’s east coast, where we stay in a beautiful village area of Manggis along the sea. Here guests can recuperate from their travels, enjoy a less touristic area of the island, watch amazing sunsets over the beach, and listen to the waves lapping up on shore. We also spend time in the cultural center of the island in Ubud amongst the rainforest. Here we are just outside of the main town center, just over a river in the lush canopy of forest trees. In the misty mornings rising over the rice fields and temple roofs, one gets a full sense of the spiritual setting and mystical atmosphere that hangs in the air.
Why join us for a wellness retreat in Bali?
We believe that yoga can be experienced both on and off the mat, and that it is a practice that can improve our lives and lead us into the present moment. Traveling to a new place and experiencing a new culture also helps lead us to the present moment by heightening our senses and putting a mixing up our day to day. In Bali, one feels this yoga spirit, the spirit of connection, throughout the island, and it’s hard not to be pulled deeper into that sense of ceremony that is so pervasive in the culture. From the daily yoga classes to the activities such as cooking classes, market and temple visits, fire ceremonies, boat trips to secluded beaches, walks through rice paddies, and indulgent spa days, one will feel that wellness is what this island exudes and that it will naturally make its way into one’s own life during the time here.

Happy New Year, EPM family! We are so grateful to have the most wonderful team of leaders and guides for our retreats. We wanted to kick off the year with an interview with Mindy Johnstone, our collaborator joining us on many retreats this year including Costa Rica, Bali, Ischia, Amalfi and South Africa….
As part of our Give Back program (where we donate a portion of the profits from our retreats to local non-profits), we support Threads of Life in Bali.
We just got back from our annual time in Bali, and it was just as refreshing as we expected. We always find the culture and people to be a breath of fresh air.
While in Bali, we were able to visit Threads of Life, our Give Back partner for the location. (For our retreats, we donate a portion of our proceeds to local non-profits to offset our traveler footprint and engage with the community we are visiting.)
Thirteen years. Twenty countries. Countless more to go.
The more I travel, the more it becomes apparent to me that it is in my DNA. As a kid, I loved going on trips – whether a staycation to a nearby hotel or a warm weather getaway to escape the Midwest winters. Despite my love of travel, the first time I left the country was in my late 20s. A year or so later, I decided that I was going to visit a new country every year until something got in my way.
We are back with our Traveler Testimony series, where we talk to past guests about their experiences on retreat! This time, we talked to Deborah, who is based in Southern California. She is a PR professional who has worked in entertainment, book publishing and tech. Deborah has not only joined us on three retreats (Marrakesh, Bali and Spain), but she has lived all over the US, including New York and Seattle. We wanted to know more about what led her to join us for her travels.
We were lucky to return to Bali for two retreats this year, and we were fortunate to go back to visit our Give Back partner for Indonesia, Threads of Life. Threads of Life is a fair trade business that works with culture and conservation to alleviate poverty in rural Indonesia. In addition to education us on the artists and foundations they work with, Our guests took a natural dye batik class, which offers a unique insight into the botany, dye processes and practice of Indonesia’s textile traditions.
Well, it's that time again. We have an anniversary to celebrate:
EAT.PRAY.MOVE has now held 75 RETREATS!
Hi everyone! It's been a while since we written to you about our Give Back Initiative and we had some exciting new updates. Since the beginning of 2017 we've donated several thousands of dollars to our Give Back partners in Bali, India, and Morocco! Thanks to our guests who've helped make this possible. We believe that we can all "Do Good & Travel Well" and also connect in a meaningful way to the cultures where we visit.
GUEST BALI TESTIMONIALS
A serious thank you for creating amazing retreats in fabulous locations with the coolest people. Bali was soulful and gorgeous and exactly what I needed for a weeklong escape from the daily grind of life. You have a talent for finding the best restaurants and activities and I love just showing up and knowing it’s going to be fabulous. Daily yoga is also a gift and I’m grateful to have found EAT.PRAY.MOVE.
I started planning my trip to Bali a year ago after talking to my friend who went on the Bali retreat with you last year. She told me how wonderful it was, and she was absolutely correct. The Bali retreat far exceeded my expectations, and that is because of you and your expert attention to every detail in making the week so special. Your peaceful morning yoga class started every day with such a calming joy, and all of the special day trips really helped us immerse in the Bali culture. The hotels were both lovely and the staff could not have been nicer.
My wife and I have participated on four EPM retreats. Each time we have been completely captivated by the experience. The locations are absolutely spectacular. The food and wine is local, healthy, fresh and delicious. The daily trips are personal, structured (but not overly so), enthralling, adventurous and chic. This is not your uncle’s travel guide tour. Erin offers an intimate and deeply restorative experience. It is invitation to form lifetime friendships with people who are curious, joyful and fun. Many times we feel like we are not only getting a sense for a place but being invited to peer behind the veil and see what is invisible to many travelers, all informed by Erin’s appreciative eye for beauty, story and style. Finally the yoga is inclusive and healing. I love the music, the settings, the flow and Erin’s ability to meet you where you are at in your practice. EAT.PRAY.MOVE is our first choice for international travel, personal restoration and inspiration. We highly recommend the experience!

BALI GIVE-BACK PARTNER \ THREADS OF LIFE
For our retreats in Bali, we pledge 10% of our profits to THREADS OF LIFE. Threads of Life is a fair trade business that works with culture and conservation to alleviate poverty in rural Indonesia along with the Bebali Foundation. The heirloom-quality textiles and baskets we commission are made with local materials and natural dyes to an exquisite standard usually seen only in museums. This Indonesian non-profit organization helps hundreds of weavers who live in remote, under-developed villages turn textiles, crafts, and other expressions of their local cultures into badly needed income in a way that is environmentally sustainable, promotes cultural integrity, and empowers women. The weaving communities we work with have provided the foundation with a “mandate” of issues that they want addressed, in three general areas: incubating community businesses, managing forests and natural resources, and nurturing traditional culture.
We work directly with over 1,000 women on 11 islands across Indonesia, helping weavers to form independent cooperatives, to recover the skills of their ancestors, to manage their resources sustainably, and to express their culture identity while building their financial security.
At EPM we absolutely love animals! We find their spirits to be both calming and loving while at the same time curious and adventurous. On retreat we get to encounter a variety of different animals from around the world, interacting with some and just marveling at the beauty of others.
