Imagine practicing your sun salutations amidst breathtaking Himalayan vistas, the crisp mountain air filling your lungs with invigorating energy. Picture yourself finding inner peace through mindful meditation in ancient monasteries, surrounded by the gentle chants of monks and the vibrant colors of prayer flags fluttering in the breeze.
Bhutan is more than just a destination; it's an experience that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit. This enchanting nation, nestled high in the Eastern Himalayas, is renowned for its unwavering commitment to Gross National Happiness, a philosophy that prioritizes well-being, culture, and environmental preservation over mere economic growth. As well as being the only carbon-neutral country on the planet, Bhutan has long been prized as a unique place to be able to visit and one that not all travelers are as fortunate to experience.
We are thrilled to announce our continued partnership with Six Senses with another of Eat.Pray.Move’s signature “Five Senses at the Six Senses” itinerary.

ACCOMMODATION
This luxury retreat will be held at one of Bhutan’s most exclusive hotels, the Six Senses Bhutan. We are honored to continue our on-going partnership with the Six Senses Hotels and especially in Bhutan where they have been rated #1 and #2 best hotel in Asia by Conde Nast.
To enhance our experience during our visit, we will be splitting our week into two of the Six Senses lodge locations - we will start the week out in the capital of Paro and then move to Thimphu.
Whichever lodge you check in to at this resort, the first thing that hits you are the views: mountain after forest-covered mountain rolling onto the horizon, backdropped by a streak of snowy peaks on clear days. Spread around western and central Bhutan’s most visited valleys, Six Senses’ lodges wrap their guests into some of Bhutan’s most awe-inspiring landscapes in sprawling hilltop resorts where large windows and wide open spaces predominate. While each lodge has a unique locally rooted character, together they function as an albergo diffuso (‘scattered hotel’) and encourage their guests to sample some of Bhutan’s wildly diverse landscapes in multi-night lodge-hopping journeys.
Paro Lodge “Stone Ruins”
Perched within 12th-century stone ruins and designed to maximize what is one of the most scenic settings within your journey, this lodge is a convenient base for an early start for the dramatic climb to Taktsang Lhakhang, or Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The lodge has been uniquely designed to maximize its surrounding history. Six Senses Spa Paro upholds the happiness practice of Education, where values give our life direction and purpose, and valuing life and all living things is the foundation for harmony and happiness.
Thimphu Lodge “Palace in the Sky”
Thimphu lies in a steep valley flanked by richly forested mountains dotted with ancient monasteries and lhakhangs (temples), which perch precariously amid prayer flags and stupas. As the national capital, it still forgoes the need for a traffic light. You’ll find an eclectic mix of cultural highlights including the 13 traditional arts and crafts, fruit and veg markets, and assorted local restaurants. Six Senses Spa Thimphu upholds the happiness practice of Health, so take this time to step out of the “doing” into the “beholding” and to new beginnings and intentions.
CUISINE
Healthful, vegetarian food is part of the retreat experience, including all meals throughout the week - breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. At Six Senses, Bhutan unfolds on your plate in a symphony of fresh, seasonal flavors, starting with the veggies they pluck from their organic gardens. Into this, the passionate chefs weave a story of local bounty – sun-kissed grains, and vibrant market fruits and spices. Each dish sings a regional tune and are cooked with love - some over an open fire.
*In the yogic tradition, meals on our retreats are vegetarian. When the company was founded, we wanted to create consistency and integrity within our yogic lineage as well as finding the most consistent way in each location to leave a light footprint. We know not all our guests are vegetarian, but we ask that they be open and understanding of the principles that guide this choice for just the few days that we are together. That said, breakfast is an open menu with all diets being represented, so there are usually options of meat / fish. Plus, a couple of the provided meals will offer an option for seafood. Special allergies can be addressed and noted.
WELLNESS
Daily practices will be offered in a way to relax, stimulate, and help guests grow in the mindfulness nature of the trip. Classes are open to all levels, beginner to practiced, and can range from gentle, restorative, and vinyasa flow. Plus meditations such as yoga nidra, guided meditation and/or walking meditation will be offered. Style and class levels will be determined and moulded to fit participating students' needs, and with a small intimate retreat class size, students will be able to get personalized attention and comfortability to deeply explore their practice.
Connection - the true meaning of yoga - is our intention for each retreat. Connection with a new culture, other people, and yourself. The movement we do on our mat is just one small part of the full practice of yoga; and we see the entire experience as a practice - being mindful of our senses, using travel as a tool to be in the present moment, even the creativity journaling we do on this specific retreat is just used as a mindfulness tool. We ask that guests come ready with an open mind and sense of adventure.
* Participation in classes and activities is optional throughout the retreat. All levels welcome!
